Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow will take to the track in the first MotoGP free poractice at Assen on Thursday to evaluate the strength of the collarbone he broke in qualifying at Silverstone and then make a decision about the rest of the weekend.
Crutchlow went down on his third lap and smashed the bone into five pieces. He has undergone surgery plus session in a hyperbaric chamber. He has also been using kriotherapy which involves being subjected to minus 135-degree temperatures.
The extreme cold in the chamber triggers cold temperature receptors in the skin to send a ‘red alert’ signal to the brain, giving a ‘fight or flight’ response. Blood is then pumped round the body at an increased rate, and there is an increase in hormone production.
"Assen is another track that I know from my time in World Superbikes, but I will have to see how my shoulder is doing on the bike and go from there. It is Yamaha's 50th anniversary and I will do my best to be there and support them," said Crutchlow.
