Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo has apologised to his team for his performance in today’s Assen MotoGP, saying it was his worst-ever performance in the series as he was scared to crash like he did last year.
The Spanish former world champion just scraped into the points with a 13th place finish and took the chequered flag more than a minute behind compatriot and race winner Marc Marquez.
“Is probably my worst race in MotoGP, finishing the race in the worst position and the thing is the bike was well in the dry and in the wet but I was just not confident enough, I was scared to crash again at this track and when I see some spitting in some corners, I didn’t want to put the risk,” said Lorenzo, speaking at the track.
“Today has been 100 per cent my fault, I want to say sorry to the team because I wasn’t able to be brave, to be fast with tough conditions like the other riders. It is a pity as in the dry we were competitve but in these conditions I could not be brave or competitive.
“Last year I made something impossible but today it was the opposite. I was a more scary rider on the track so that is why my position.”
