Britain’s Sam Lowes has put his knowledge of the Assen MotoGP circuit to good use this morning, setting the third-fastest Moto2 time and only edged off top spot by late laps from Jonas Folger and Mika Kallio.
The Speed Up rider assumed the number one spot with his 12th lap of 21, going ahead of Dominique Aegerter with a 1’38.609 and remained there until the dying minutes when he was usurped the two more experienced men.
MarcVDS man Kallio just pipped Lowes with a 1’38.602 but that time was beaten by AGR’s Jonas Folger with his 16th lap of 18, bagging top spot with a 1’38.459. Aegerter remained in fourth place with series leader Esteve Rabat in fifth place but less than two tenths off the pace.
Maverick Vinales was sixth and a further 0.045s behind with Jordi Torres, Simone Corsi, Sandro Cortese and Marcel Schrotter completing the top ten, who were covered by six-tenths of a second.
Gino Rea ended the session in 28th place and 1.8s off the pace.
