MotoGP Assen: Rossi struggling with cold tyres

Marlboro Ducati's Valentino Rossi could not get enough heat into his tyres in order to put in any meaningful lap-times during this afternoon's MotoGP qualifying session at Assen but has no regrets about using the new GP11.1 even though he is on the fourth row of the grid.

The Doctor was second quickest in wet conditions yesterday and was still in the hunt this morning with a 1'37.247 lap but as the field managed to get quicker, and down to lap record pace, Rossi couldn't make any inroads even as the soft tyre was only good for three laps.

"We still have some problems with the bike and it looks like we don't understsand the way to ride at the maximum with this bike and for to set the bike for having the better feeling. All our problems become a lot lot bigger because today, like in Silverstone, with the cold conditions,~" said Rossi

"We have lot of problems for put enough temperature in the tyres and they remain under the range where they will provide the better grip so I have to try a softer front for improve my laptime because with the hard I had not enough grip.

"The soft tyre gave me better feeling for three laps to improve position but anyway it's not an option for a dry race tomorrow because we need to make the hard tyre work. The problem with the front is similar to the old bike and this is what gives us more disadvantage."
