Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner has denied any involvement in rejecting an extra shipment of soft-compound rear tyres that Bridgestone wanted to deliver to the Assen MotoGP round on Friday night, saying the first he heard of it was at dinner after the decision had been taken.
A vote was taken by all the teams to see if the additional tyres should be allowed to be used and the plan was rejected because the vote has to be unanimous. The rumour mill place the blame squarely at Repsol Honda as Stoner is comfortable using the hard-compund tyre - but he says he knows nothing about it.
"Franco (Uncini, safety delegate) came into my motorhome and explained the situation and I thought that if it was going to be cold weather then that would be a good idea but if it's hot weather I want the harder selection so this is all I told him," said Stoner.
"I didn't decline the situation, I know a few riders wanted it and a few didn't want it so I have no idea over the whole situation and I only found out at dinner time on Friday they decided against it. The changes we made to the bike didn't help the (temperature) situation and we still struggled for the first three laps to get heat in the left side of the tyre."
