MotoGP Australia: First Moto2 title chance for Rabat

MarcVDS Moto2 rider Esteve Rabat has his first chance to pick up the Moto2 title at this weekend’s Phillip Island MotoGP round but says he is taking it in his stride and treating it like every other race.

The Spaniard has a 38-point lead over nearest challenger Mika Kallio, who also happens to be his team mate. There are 75 points left on the table so Rabat needs to leave Australia with a 51-point advantage to wrap up the big trophy.

“It’s a good sensation but here will be very difficult. Of course we will try 100 per cent but the most important is to make this race like the last races, try to make good practice, focus on my bike,” said Rabat, speaking at Phillip Island.

“I feel happy but is a new place, new country, new weekend, everything starts from zero. Here, for the moment, there will be good weather but the problem it can be windy. I love this track, is very fast, a lot of speed but every weekend is different.

“Mika is rival number one but in the track. Outside the track I make my job, of course he is not my best friend but I have a lot of respect.”
