MotoGP Austria: Dixon aiming for top-five fight

The second Spielberg weekend saw Jake Dixon searching for improvements to put his Petronas SRT in the top-five battle as Moto2 prepared for the AustrianGP.

Dixon started Friday with a 1’29.522 fastest lap as soon as FP1 fired up, choosing to continue with his set-up analysis rather than push for a hot-lap in the closing stages of the morning session.

A green track greeted the intermediate class for the afternoon after a lunchtime downpour reset conditions with the Brit once again quick out of the blocks and sitting second in the opening laps. Despite remaining inside the top-14 throughout FP2, he was unable to improve upon his morning best, ending the day 18th in the combined times, albeit just six-tenths from the fastest overall time.

“It wasn’t bad today and we were able to try a lot of things,” Dixon said from the Austrian paddock.

“With it being the second weekend here, it’s always good to compare everything. In FP2 I tried the new tyre and I didn’t gel with it, it’s something we could do with making some improvements with.

“This afternoon the rain before our session had cleaned the rubber off the track, which wasn’t ideal, but we’ve got some data to go through tonight and see if we can make a slight improvement.

“We only need one or two-tenths a lap, to put us in the battle for tenth to fifth. I think that will be a good result for us at the moment.
