Britain’s Leon Camier managed to get to just a tenth of a second behind Scott Redding in the final MotoGP free practice session at Brno but was held up by Alex De Angelis on his final qualifying lap this afternoon.
The Drive M7 Honda man managed a 1'58.635 in qualifying one after finding a 1’58.832 in free practice four but couldn’t quite get a full lap together in the last timed session.
However, he recognised what he needs to do to go faster and says it will come with time. Camier is also pleased that he got into the 1’58s as that is where he thinks Scott Redding will spend most of his time in tomorrow’s race.
“I didn’t go quite to plan to be honest. I was hoping for a little bit better but we made another massive step in free practice and a little bit in qualifying. I ran into De Angelis on my second lap, which was faster, he was on the racing line going slow and held me up, said Camier, speaking at the track.
“It’s one of those things but I still believe we can improve quite a lot. We will see for warm-up. It didn’t help having the wet session yesterday, we lost a bit of time. As you make an improvement, something else is not quite right, so you have to improve that. We definitely need more time.
“The good thing is I can understand exactly where we need to improve. The difficult thing is we have had such a short space of time to do it but we’ve gone two seconds quicker, which is a massive leap.
“I did quite a few mid-1’58s, where I think Scott’s race pace will be for sure, which I have done by myself so it is coming, you know. I think in the first lap, you get a little bit excited, pushing the front too much and I had to step back a little for the second a flow a little more instead of trying to bury the front anywhere.”
