Britain’s Leon Camier found another four-tenths of a second during today’s Brno MotoGP test and was able to lap consistently in the 1’58s which should set him up nicely for a good performance at Silverstone in a fortnight.
It was confirmed this evening after we spoke to Camier that he will ride at Silverstone, which makes sense given his test performance today.
“Today we have confirmed that I'll be riding at Silverstone for the Drive M7 Aspar Team, which is great news and a dream come true for me to ride in my home Grand Prix with such a great team. I know the circuit well and I really like it so hopefully we can take another big step forward there," said the Kent man.
Speaking earlier in the day, he said: "We made an improvement in the laptime again, which I did by myself, so that’s positive. We got a few laps in the low 1’58s which is a positive and felt comfortable doing it. What we need to do now is make the bike slow down without using the edge of the tyre."
“I need to change my style to try and use a bit more rear brake. It seems like I am using a lot of brake loading the tyre it is getting hot after a couple of laps which won’t last for a race. We need to use the tyres as little as possible to conserve them.
“We have found a little more edge grip, which is what I was struggling with massively yesterday, so we will see. It is getting there.”
It wasn’t all plain sailing for the former British Superbike Champion as an early crash at turn one left his mechanics with some work to do, although Camier is still a little mystified why he came off.
“Not sure why I crashed, to be honest, the tyres were warm. What they said happened was I slid the rear but was holding it and hit the bump, which I have hit all weekend no problem, I slid off the bike a little bit which upset me enough to come off and on the gas and then boom, gone.”
