Factory Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo has admitted he made an error in opting to run with the soft front Bridgestone in today's Brno MotoGP race after nearly crashing early on and then only being able to finish fourth ahead of team-mate Ben Spies.
Lorenzo had no feeling from the hard tyre in practice and qualifying so chose to use the softer option but a hotter track meant it didn't work. Alvaro Bautista also chose the soft tyre and ended up crashing with a handful of laps to go.
"I don't know what happened today, the track was much more slippery and the front tyre just closed (slid). After the race it was obvious we made the wrong choice for the front tyre but before the race we thought it was the best tyre we can use," said Lorenzo.
"I didn't have a very good feeling with the hard in practice so I try to make the fastest lap in qualifying I use the hard tyre. I got a fast lap with the first but the second I got six tenths slower so I thought the hard tyre in the front is not good.
"I then try a soft one and improve my time with the first lap and I have much more good feeling. But it seems today the track was much warmer and it seems this tyre was not the right choice. The tyre choice was mainly mine but the Bridgestone techncian and (crew chief) Ramon were with me."
