MotoGP Catalunya: Hayden laughs off retirement rumours

Former MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden has laughed off rumours that his crocked wrist is so bad he will be forced to retire in the very near future.

The American is suffering after undergoing surgery just ten days ago and is riding with stitches still in his arm. Rumours of his impending retirement have flooded the MotoGP paddock when Britain’s Leon Camier was flown in as a replacement in case the Drive M7 Honda man couldn’t function this weekend.

“I don’t know where these rumours come from. I was laughing. There is zero truth in it whatsoever. Of course, it’s not perfect but I’m not ready to retire,” said Hayden, speaking at the track.

Hayden’s plan was to take part in first practice yesterday and see how his wrist held up. If was too uncomfortable, Camier would have stood in but Hayden has continued on and will race tomorrow.

According to the stout chaps at Motomatters.com, Hayden’s wrist is becoming arthritic as too many operations have cause excess bone growth in the wrong places which limits his range of motion.

“It’s definitely not helping. How much, I don’t know. I haven’t done a ton of laps and have saved some laps to try to arrive on Sunday in a good position. It’s an easy excuse but I only had surgery ten days ago and I still have the stitches in,” said Hayden.
