Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli has said his long legs are good for something as they allowed him to save a big slide on the qualifying lap which put him on pole for tomorrow's Barcelona MotoGP race.
The lanky Italian found a setting which meant he could push hard in the awkward final sector and snatch top spot from Repsol Homda's Casey Stoner on his last lap. Simoncelli added, though, his first goal is to finish...
"My first goal is to finish the race, the second goal is to finish on the podium and the third, if possible is to win. This is the best way to forget what happened at Le Mans but Le Mans is finished now and I just want to do my best tomorrow," said Simoncelli.
“I was strong even though we had a few problems at the start of the session when I couldn’t push as hard as I would have liked. By the end we had solved the problems and I was able to ride really fast, although I never thought I would be able to set pole because Casey had been so fast in every session.
"I took a bit of a risk on the last lap trying to go faster and managed to save it, so finally my long legs have been good for something! Tomorrow won’t be easy because both Casey and Jorge have a fast race pace but I will try to stay with them."
