Aspar Aprilia's Randy De Puniet set the early pace on the first day of MotoGP CRT testing at Jerez, going quicker than team-mate Aleix Espargaro but his lap of 1'41.6 was only fractionally quicker than the Moto2 machinery that used the circuit late last week.
Scott Redding lapped the track on his MarcVDS Kalex in 1'42.2s in slightly colder conditions which puts Espargaro, Mattia Pasini and Danilo Petrucci seriously on the back foot as the latter could only manage a 1'43.3-lap with 43 attempts.
"Today we worked on suspension and also on the electronics. I'm a little upset because I didn’t go as fast as in November, when we were here testing. But on the other hand, I’m not worried because we still have two full days of work left. This afternoon we will analyze the information extracted in the first day of testing to see how we can improve for tomorrow," said De Puniet.
