MotoGP Estoril: Retirement 'not too distant' for Stoner

Reigning MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner has denied that his retirement from the sport is imminent but tempered that by saying it he will hang up his leathers 'in the not too distant future".

Rumours started by some Spanish journalists of Stoner's retirement spread like wildfire in the Estoril paddock today but the twice world champion said he will stop as soon as he ceases to enjoy riding and racing but not before.

"I'm not going to be racing forever and I will be retiring in the not too distant future. I think I will know when it is time. I will stick to my word and retire when I stop enjoying racing. There are so many people who say that and you know they haven't been enjoying racing for a while," said Stoner, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Estoril.

"They money keeps people here. They are making money, they have got the lifestyle. I'm not in it for the money or the lifestyle. I'm in it for racing and when I do stop enjoying it I will hang up the leathers and go home. At the moment results are good. It gets tough sometimes but I still love riding and racing."
