MotoGP Germany: Simoncelli continues to set the pace

Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli snatched top spot from Jorge Lorenzo in the second MotoGP free practice this afternoon at the Sachsenring with his final lap of the session and the Yamaha man is the only non-HRC man in the top five.

Simoncelli lapped in 1'22.225 which was less than a tenth faster than the Factory Yamaha while Dani Pedrosa bagged third with his final circulation and was on course for top spot until he lost his pace in the last sector. Casey Stoner, who underwent an X-ray after his crash this morning but was given the all clear, is fourth and three tenths in arrears.

The third Repsol bike of Andrea Dovizioso is in fifth but still less than half a second off the pace while Nicky Haydenm, clearly enjoying this left-handed track, is in sixth ahead of camptriot Ben Spies who is totally full of cold.

Randy De Puniet, Alvaro Bautista and Karel Abraham round out the top ten. Valentino Rossi had a bike break on him while he was in the middle of his eighth lap and he had to settle for 12th behind Colin Edwards despite going out again.

Cal Crutchlow is 14th after he got up unhurt from a crash at the waterfall while Sylvain Guintoli will ride Loris Capirossi's bike for the rest of the weekend. The Italian is still in pain from his crash a couple of weeks ago and is sitting out this weekend. Guintoli has missed a session already but is only four seconds off.
