Britain’s Leon Camier has spoken about his debut in the MotoGP class today at Indianapolis, saying it has been an unreal experience but adding there is a lot of room for improvement especially as, at more than six feet tall, he will have to make some changes to get comfortable on the tiny production Honda.
The former British Superbike Champion finished the day only 3.5s slower than quickest man Marc Marquez and had to contend with not ever having ridden the circuit or used carbon brakes and Bridgestone tyres before.
“It’s pretty amazing to be honest. The way the power works, it’s very smooth but the tyres are a big thing, the limit is a fair bit different to what I am used to. You can carry so much more entry speed on the front. The carbon brakes are a big difference and it takes some time to get a feeling for them,” said Camier, speaking at the track.
“There is so much to learn it is unreal but the bike feels really good. I was a little but worried about fitting on it but we can make some improvements and it’s not as bad as I thought. I don’t think there is anything we can do here that will make a massive difference but for the next race we can make some changes that will make a big difference.
“As soon as you have that little bit of comfort, I can use my bodyweight to try and help me in places and move around on the bike.”
“I really like the circuit, it kind of reminds me of Silverstone. The first corner is scary, you need some big kahunas going in there, turning in after doing 200mph makes your hair stand on end. I need more time going through it but there are places I am going good.”
