Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez resumed normal service in the second free practice session at Indianapolis, topping the timesheets with a 1’32.882 to be the only rider under the 1’33s barrier.

Using Bridgestone’s hardest compound tyre, Marquez went into top spot on his 16th lap of 19 to shuffle back Pramac Ducati’s Andrea Iannone with former world champion Jorge Lorenzo in third place, half a second behind Marquez.

Iannone was fastest with ten minutes left with Andrea Dovizios second and Yonny Hernandez third after the trio followed Valentino Rossi around on the same lap and they all went two-tenths quicker than The Doctor who, despite going a second faster than his time from this morning which was the quickest, slipped down to ninth place.

Marquez’ team-mate Dani Pedrosa launched himself from deep in the pack up to third but then slid back into fifth place behind Dovizioso’s works Ducati with Stefan Bradl in sixth, one place in front of Hernandez who is riding last year’s Desmosedici.

Aleix Espargaro finished in eighth place on a 1’33.587 ahead of Rossi’s works Yamaha while Bradley Smith, who was second fastest behind the Italian this morning, couldn’t better his time and slipped back to tenth on the combined sheets.

Scott Redding is still the fastest of the production Hondas in 12th and remains in front of Cal Crutchlow, by far the slowest of the Ducatis today lapping some 1.4s slower than Iannone’s satellite GP14.

Michael Laverty edged up to 19th place after finding three second from first free practice to second while Leon Camier, although still last, cut the gap from 5.4s to 3.5s to the fastest man and finished only half a second slower than fellow Andorra resident Broc Parkes.
