Spaniard Alex Rins streaked to Moto3 pole position at Jerez today in only the second Grand Prix race of his career, taking advantage of a drying track to put in a set of slicks late on, beating relative veteran Sandro Cortese into second while Portugese Miguel Olivera jumped into third with his final lap.
The qualifying session started wet but as the clock ticked down, slicks became the order as Aussie Jake Miller leapt to the top of the timesheets but was quickly knocked down to second by compatriot Arthur Sissis with Alex Masbou and Jakub Kornfeil in the mix.
In a frantic final few minutes, Cortese took the lead but was put back a place Olivera who, in turn, was topped by Rins with Masbou in third but it was left to Rins' last lap to bag top spot. Frenchman Masbou is at the head of row two with Kornfeil and Miller for company.
Isaac Vinales beat cousin Maverick to head row three with Sissis the meat in the Vinales sandwich while Romano Fenati rounds out the top ten. It was disappointment for Danny Kent who finished in 15th while Danny Webb jumped up to 21st as the track dried.
