MotoGP Jerez: Suzuki and Aprilia join the wing party

Ecstar Suzuki and Gresini Aprilia both debuted aerodynamic wings on their respective bikes during the opening day of MotoGP practice at Jerez with Aleix Espargaro already feeling the benefit.

The Spaniard says he has to use less anti-wheelie in some corners and that he can feel where the aero is pushing the front wheel into the tarmac more than when he is wing-less.

“Pons for example, is the corner where you feel the most and you can also have a little bit less anti-wheelie. You can have a little bit less wheelie control so it means a little bit more power and more easy to ride the fast places,” said Espargaro, speaking at the track.

“This track is not really a demanding track for the winglets but when we go to Mugello for example or Aragon, some fast tracks, it will be something very good.

“I think that on the corners where I felt more different today, for example Sit Pons, without the winglets you have movement in the handlebars because the front tyre is not touching the asphalt, but with the winglets you have less movement because the tyre is on the asphalt.”

Stefan Bradl also had wings attached to his Aprilia and said: I also tried the wings and I must say that I can feel some benefits, although this is just a first impression.”
