Ducati's Nicky Hayden is remaining upbeat about the new Desmosedici GP12 after the first day's MotoGP testing at Jerez, saying he still has some work to do and settings to test before he begins to panic about whether solutions can be found to the problems he is having.
Team-mate Valentino Rossi is less positive, wondering if his front-end woes can ever be fixed but the Kentuckian is having more issues with the rear - being able to hold a line out of corners and get the bike stood up on the fat part of the tyre to maximise acceleration.
"I still have some stuff to test before I get too nervous. Of course, we know what we are up against and it will certainly be tough but I'm not going to panic just yet. The bike is a handful but we have worked to improve the electronics so it's not too crazy, the long corners are good fun," said Hayden, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Jerez.
"I have a little bit of a problem on entry but I am also losing a bit on exit so maybe I have two problems. On the first crack of the throttle I am ok, but then immediately I begin sliding and lose the line, and that make the poor traction a bigger problem because then you're still leaned over on the side of the tyre trying to finish the corner instead of being able to pick it up."
