Factory Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo bagged top spot in this evening's second MotoGP free practice session with a very early lap of 1'22.056 while Dani Pedrosa took second place just ahead of his team-mate Casey Stoner with Valentino Rossi down in 11th.
Spaniard Lorenzo, who survived a big cold-tyre moment at the bottom of The Corkscrew late on, set his lap on his ninth circulation of 24 and is a little more than a tenth faster than compatriot Pedrosa while Stoner is only 0.34s further back but all three are still a long way off Lorenzo's pole of 1'20.978 from last year.
Andrea Dovizioso, on the third Repsol bike, took fourth place with a 1'22.730 with three-time AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies fifth and half a second off the pace. Marco Simoncelli isn't in his usual form, placing sixth fastest and almost three quarters of a second off the pace while Alvaro Bautista rode his nuts off chasing Dovizioso to take seventh and should be subject to a Voight-Kampff test for doing that time on that thing.
Another replicant today is Randy De Puniet in eighth who managed to stay ahead of Colin Edwards who has no home advantage anymore given he only rides here the same amount as everyone else and the same goes for Nicky Hayden, who is still testing both the GP11 and GP11.1 in tenth.
Valentino Rossi, who has stuck to the GP11.1, is in 11th place and 1.3s in arrears. Hector Barbera is in between The Doctor and Britain's Cal Crutchlow, who had a couple of trips across the gravel at his first visit to the track. Ben Bostrom is still last and 4.1s off the pace, which is pretty good considering.
