Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner has set the fastest time in the opening MotoGP free practice session at Laguna Seca this evening but was only a tenth faster than teamn-mate Dani Pedrosa who got up from a slow-speed spill to take second place.
Stoner's 1'22.300 was set early in the session, his sixth lap of 19, while Pedrosa's was his final circulation ans just 0.018s faster than third-placed man Jorge Lorenzo who led team-mate Ben Spies into third pace but the Texan was half a second off the pace.
Andrea Dovizioso put the third Repsol bike into fifth place wirth Marco Simoncelli in sixth, only a tenth faster than 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden on the Marlboro Ducati. Hayden was out on the GP11 first of all and then switched to the GP11.1 later on, setting his time on the old bike.
Colin Edwards was eighth and Valentino Rossi in ninth as tried the GP11.1 first before the GP11 later with Alvaro Bautista in tenth. Cal Crutchlow, who hasn't ridden at Laguna before, is 13th. Ben Bostrom was last and five seconds off the pace.
