MotoGP Misano: Cold tyres halt Marquez' pole plan

Marc Marquez has revealed his hopes of pole or even a front row for tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Misano were scuppered after he lost the temperature in his front tyre.

The championship leader had been looking for another pole as he headed out for his final run in today’s qualifying session but it all went wrong when he got caught up in traffic.

The Repsol Honda rider had topped the timesheets in free practice three this morning, and had been expected to be the man to beat as Q2 got underway.

But it didn’t work out the way he’d planned it as he took to the track for his final run. After a strong first lap he put his hopes on achieving the fastest lap of the weekend on the second, but it all went wrong when he hit traffic on track and his tyre cooled too much.

“For the first one I felt ok,  I did a good lap but in the second one I was in the middle of traffic and I couldn’t find the best lap. When I pushed in the last lap the tyres were too cold.

“In the end I am happy because the rhythm was really good. We are much closer to the Yamaha riders and we will try to fight against them tomorrow and try to be fast.”

In a weekend where tyres have been an issue for a number of riders, the Spaniard says he has a plan on what rubber to run tomorrow, but added that this will depend on the weather.

“I was planning to use the hard front and soft rear if the temperature is like this, but now I hear that the forecast is not like today and will be a little bit cloudy, so then we check and make our final decision but if it is like then hard front and soft rear is the best option for us.”
