Marlboro Ducati's Hayden cast a unhappy shadow in the Misano MotoGP paddock this evening, having to settle for his worst qualifying position of the season so far after going half a second faster than last year.
The 2006 world champion now has no idea what to try to make his GP11.1 even vaguely competitive for tomorrow's race. He says the bike works in cooler conditions on used tyres but when it gets hot he doesn't know what to do with it.
Hayden also apologised to Ben Spies for holding him up in qualifying saying the Yamaha man came up on him much faster than he expected and was sorry for making a rookie error.
"This morning when the track was cooler on used tyres we went faster than yesterday and were in the 34s but from there when I put in the new tyres and stuff I got more rear grip and just pushed the front in a lot of places which caused some front chatter and my lap time was terrible," said Hayden, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"I went almost a half-second quicker than last year but still not near fast enough, my worst qualifying of the year and I'm not sure how to put a positive spin on it. It's not what we hoped for here. We will see tomorrow but I am not sure what we are going to try."
