Monster Yamaha's Colin Edwards this evening confirmed he would leave his current MotoGP team and switch to the Forward Racing squad for next season on a CRT bike using a Yamaha R1 engine - but no decisions have been made on what chassis to run.
The two-time World Superbike Champion would like his current team to build the chassis for him as they have had success in Moto2 with Bradley Smith using their Mistral design and Edwards said that, allied to a Yamaha engine, would be the 'dream team.' The Forward Racing squad has already secured backing from Italian mobile phone firm NGM.
"This is obviously the future. Looking at other motorsports, you take a chassis, put an engine in it and this is where we are going. I've always been a good test rider, I have worked for many years testing a developing bikes and I thought this would be my next challenge," said the Texan during a press conference.
"We will be riding a Yamaha engine. As for the chassis, we are still weighing up the options but number one would be for Herve Poncharal, Guy Coulon and Tech3 to build a chassis for us but we're still in negotiations with that. For me that would be the dream team, Yamaha with a Tech3 chassis."
