Britain’s Leon Camier will be in further talks to remain in the MotoGP paddock for 2015 but has stressed that he will only stay if something competitive is attainable - if not he will re-visit the World Superbike Championship.
The Andorra-based rider is in the frame to remain at Aspar, especially now too much height has ruled out Loris Baz (click here) but has also been linked with Forward Yamaha and Pramac Ducati.
“There are talks happening this weekend but as I have said before, if I don’t get something that I want here, something that’s good then I will be looking at World Superbikes again. There are a few things there that I am genuinely interested in. If there is something competitive here then I will look to do a deal here,” said Camier, speaking at the track.
“It’s so easy to circulate at the back if you’re not on the right kit, the same as in World Superbikes. All of a sudden you get on a bike that works, and you’re up the front. You’re not trying any harder or doing anything better or worse, it’s what it is.”
Camier ended up taking nine seconds off his laptime over the course of free practices and said it was easier when Bridgestone made the softer-compund wets available this afternoon.
“It was a little bit scary at the beginning. Last time I rode here, I fell off on the sighting lap, that’s how slippery it was. It wasn’t good grip this morning so we only did a couple of laps.
“The softs definitely worked better, not a massive step but enough you could get a feel for things. I was knocking big chunks of time off every lap and I was beginning to enjoy riding around in the wet but coming from where we are with the Pirellis, it’s a bit scary. In 2011, I was usually one of the fastest but when they changed to the bigger wheels, the grip went away, it was horrific.
“The problem is the rubber down from the cars. You can see where the track is black. Some corners, the flat ones, are not so bad but where there is downforce, it leaves rubber. The lefts are worse as there is not enough heat in the tyres as the rear is trying to come round.
“Brno was another world in the wet but today was a bit more in the direction we are used to. The bike was feeling not to bad, we made some changes and it was just a matter of me getting used to it.”
