Valentino Rossi delighted every single person in the Misano grandstands this morning as he topped the third MotoGP free practice with a bite-the-screen 1’31.861 to lead a Yamaha clean sweep.
Rossi did one lap on a medium front/soft rear Michelin combination to beat Monster Yamaha team-mate Maverick Vinales by 0.075s with Fabio Quartararo third a further 0.025s in arrears.
Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller had been leading the way with a 1’32.129 but crash at the last corner with a handful of minutes left and he was unable to improve.
Alex Rins placed his Ecstar Suzuki firmly inside the qualifying two positions, taking fifth place with a 1’32.206, putting him 0.345s off the pace but only 0.032s ahead of team-mate Joan Mir.
Pecco Bagnaia, who is still recovering from a broken leg, finished in seventh place on his Pramac Ducati with Johann Zarco's Esponsorama Desmosdedici finishing on a 1'32.268.
Franky Morbidelli bagged ninth with Andrea Dovizioso in tenth place. Despite a crash, Red Bull KTM's Pol Espargaro secured 11th place and Miguel Oliveira was the last of the automatic qualifying two men in 12th.
Aleix Espargaro, Taka Nakagami and Iker Lecuona completed the top 15 with Danilo Petrucci and Brad Binder surprisingly off the pace in 16th and 17th respectively.
