Moto2 series leader Tito Rabat led a MarcVDS one-two at the Misano MotoGP round, snatching the lead from team-mate Mika Kallio with 13 laps to go to cross the line with a two-second lead over the Finn.
Kallio disappeared as the lights went out and built a 1.3s lead over the Spaniard but as the race got to half distance, Rabat started to reel in Kallio and then jumped on a mistake by the number 36 bike as he ran wide. Kallio looked to have the pace to stay in the tow but a near high-side gave Rabat the gap he needed for the win.
Johan Zarco took a lonely final rostrum spot after an early battle with Maverick Vinales while Swiss pair Thomas Luthi and Dominique Aegerter, who will be in the same team next season, rounded out the top five.
It was a tough weekend for Britain’s Sam Lowes. He cracked a bone in his ankle yesterday and had to fight his way from a deep grid slot to finish in 18th place. The youngster, who is 24 today, is deeply frustrated with his Speed Up team and the lack of communication therein.
Lowes is desperate to get rid of the carbon fibre swingarm which he believes his holding him back and is of the opinion that the squad aren’t listening to his feeback information to improve setup over race weekends. Gino Rea was 22nd.
