Factory Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo wants more rear grip from his Yamaha YZR-M1, identifying the extra traction as they key to winning races consistently for the rest of the season.
The reigning world champion is a massive 44 points behind leader Casey Stoner and says that standing on top of the podium for more than one race in a row is going to be very difficult unless Yamaha are able to give him more traction and some more power from the crossplane crank motor in order to do something about the dominance of the Australian.
"It is easy to say finish in front of Casey but not easy to do at this moment. My strategy is to come back to the performance I made from Mugello to Laguna. This was the best moment is the season and I think we can come back again to it," said Lorenzo, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"It seems Dani and Casey are in a very strong point of the championship but I think we can at least fight for the podium and maybe sometimes for the victory. I finish on the podium here in the last three season, I never won and the goal is to finish on the podium again.
"We are not competitive enough to win three or four races in a row at this moment. I don't know what is going to happen this year. Maybe next year with the 1000 we will be much more competitive but at this point you can win one race like I won in Jerez in strange conditions. In Mugello I made a good race but to be consistently winning is difficult with the package we have.
"Ben won in Assen in difficult conditions but we need something more, we need some tenths we don't have this year. The easy way to win tenths is the traction, the grip on the rear tyre, this is the thing we have to work, the traction and a little bit on the motor."
