Britain's Bradley Smith took another second place in the World 125GP Championship at the Misano MotoGP round this morning after a race-long battle with reigning champion Gabor Talmasci.
But the UK's other great hope Scott Redding crashed out on only the second lap after losing the front on to the start/finish straight.
Oxfordshire's Smith led into the first turn but was immediately beaten up by Hungarian Talmasci who went past in turn two. The pair then got their heads down and pulled out a lead on third placed man Nicolas Terol, who was five seconds behind on lap four.
As Smith sat behind Talmasci for lap after lap, the gap to third extended as Smith pushed for the lead.
With 12 laps to go, Talmasci had a massive moment and ran wide, allowing Smith to go underneath and pull out a one second gap. Talmasci then set about hunting down the 17-year-old and re-took the lead with nine laps left on the sheet.
He then set about putting a gap on Smith and eventually crossed the line some three ahead of Smith, who took the second step of the podium more than 10 seconds in front of Simone Corsi.
Championship leader Mike Di Meglio crashed out with nine laps to go and Stefan Bradl had a mechanical failure, meaning Talmasci closes the gap on the leader to 39 points.
Britain's third rider Danny Webb finished 14th after dropping to 30th on the first lap.
