MotoGP Motegi: Rossi not expecting ‘next gen’ gearbox in 2014

Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi is not expecting the next generation of seamless gearbox to appear on his MotoGP YZR-M1 before the end of this season and will now wait for 2015.

The nine-time world champion, and team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, have had a version of the gearbox which works on upshifts but a system to compete with the Honda’s that also operates coming down the ‘box is yet to appear.

“It’s one of the main project for Yamaha. Sincerely, we don’t know when we can try but we hope as soon as possible because I think it can help us in braking. We start with Yamaha to work on the seamless gearbox just last year so under that point of view, we are a little bit in delay compared to the Hondas,” said Rossi, speaking at Motegi.
