MotoGP Mugello: Dovizioso frustrated after engine blow up

A frustrated Andrea Dovizioso said that the he didn’t complete all his work as his first bike blew up heading into turn one.

The Italian ended up only finishing thirteenth overall after an engine issue saw his progress halted during FP2. Dovizioso’s engine blew up at the end of the home straight on his first bike, forcing him to end the session on his second bike.

Despite the bike issue in FP2, Andrea Dovizioso did manage to post the fastest ever speed recorded by a MotoGP bike, 356.4km/h (221.5mph).

Dovizioso described the day as complicated as his engine gave way down the home straight, forcing him to

“For us it was quite a complicated day, starting with this morning,” said the Italian. “We had good pace but we were unable to see out our scheduled work programme because I had a problem with the bike in FP2 and had to use the other one to finish the session.”

As well as the engine issue in FP2, the World Championship challenger said that he suffered from a lack of grip from the rear tyre, further slowing down his progress.

“Unfortunately the rear tyre didn’t have enough grip, and as well as not being able to set a good time, we weren’t able to work the way we wanted to,” he said.

Dovizioso also sent his well wishes to his Factory Ducati team-mate Michele Pirro after his awful crash at the beginning of FP2. An huge moment over the bump into turn one forced Pirro into a huge highside, with the Italian being transported to a local hospital for further checks.

“Michele’s crash was truly horrific and I really hope it was nothing serious,” said Dovizioso.
