MotoGP Mugello: Lorenzo takes second win of the year

Factory Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo has taken his second MotoGP win of the year at Mugello this afternoon, grabbing the lead away from Casey Stoner with six laps to go with Andrea Dovizioso following him through to demote the championship leader to the last podium spot.

Stoner leapt away from the field as soon as the lights went out and it looked like he was going to be unstoppable but Lorenzo crept back up to the Australian's rear wheel, going past team-mate Dovizoso first, and went underneath the 2007 champion going through Casanova corner. Stoner suffered with grip issues as the track temperature went up and could do no nothing about Lorenzo's pace.

Dovizioso went past Stoner on the last lap for second while the Ben Spies, who won last time out at Assen, passed Marco Simoncelli into the last corner to take fourth after the pair fenced for the position for most of the encounter.

Marlboro Ducati's Valentino Rossi was involved in a big dice for sixth place with Hector Barbera, Colin Edwards, Alvaro Bautista and Dani Pedrosa which The Doctor won after breaking away from the pack and taking Barbera with him.

Pedrosa finished in eighth in front of Edwards while Nicky Hayden came through after running off track to take tenth. Britain's Cal Crutchlow retired with front tyre issues for the second race in a row.
