Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner has bagged MotoGP pole position at a wet Mugello this afternoon taking top spot with an early lap before the heavens opened halfway through the hour-long session.
Stoner set a 1'48.034 which was the best part of half a second faster than Yamaha's Ben Spies while Marco Simoncelli, who was trading laps with Stoner before it rained, rounds out the front row a mere 0.006s behind the American.
Andrea Dovizioso, on the second Repsol bike, is fourth just ahead of reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo with Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow finishing row two and starting row three on their brace of Monster Yamahas. Dani Pedrosa is eighth and 1.3s off the pace with Nicky Hayden the first of the Ducatis in ninth. Hector Barbera rounds out the top ten.
Valentino Rossi, on the Ducati GP11.1, had his session yesterday interrupted by electrical problems on both bikes and struggled again today, finishing the session in 12th and last Ducati on the grid as Karel Abraham qualified one place ahead of him.
