MotoGP Qatar: Title contenders pushing for 7pm race

MotoGP title contenders Marc Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales have all joined Jorge Lorenzo’s crusade to bring Sunday’s race start time forward by an hour on safety grounds.

Lorenzo has been pushing MotoGP bosses for a seven o’clock start as there will be less chance of dew-point on the track which saw myriad crashes on the final day of testing a week or so ago.

So far, the appeals have fallen on deaf ears but there is a safety commission meeting tomorrow evening. However, it would involve a lot of re-scheduling for TV which, as we all know, is the most important thing in the world.

“I think that last year we race at seven. For me, is better, more safe,” said Rossi.

“The point is the every day the condition is different. Sometime the humidity start early so maybe is better to make a decision early and race a bit before. Already during the day we make two practices and this is because it doesn’t prepare the race but this is what we find here,” said Dovizioso.

“Last year we race at seven and it was really good. The humidity was OK so I prefer to race at seven too,” added Marquez. “It’s less risky and for sure would be better.”

Vinales said: “We have to discuss in the safety commission but at seven the risk is much less and for sure the grip on the track will be much better and we can push much more.”
