Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter took his debut Moto2 victory at the Sachsenring MotoGP round this afternoon, edging out Mika Kallio for the win while Britain’s Sam Lowes continued to struggle and crossed the line in 20th place.
Aegerter started on pole in the 129th Grand Prix of his career. He crossed the line just 0.091s in front of Kallio, with Simone Corsi taking third place by 0.152s from Esteve Rabat (Marc VDS Racing Team).
The race result sees Kallio close to within 19 points of Rabat at the head of the standings. Maverick Viñales (Pons HP 40) was in the podium hunt, but eventually crossed the line just behind Corsi and Rabat in fifth.
The top ten was completed by Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team), Randy Krummenacher (IodaRacing Project), Mattia Pasini (NGM Forward Racing), Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) and Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2).
Lowes has been struggling with setup all weekend and just couldn’t find any pace on the hard tyre that Dunlop brought to the track. Gino Rea ended in 25th.
