Reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez says that although he has now won all nine races in the 2014 championship so far and beaten Mike Hailwood’s 50-year-old record of eight consecutive victories, it was too early to think about wrapping up the title at Aragon.
The Repsol Honda man was again unstoppable today at the Sachsenring in tricky conditions although team-mate Dani Pedrosa put up a decent fight against Marquez once they had threaded their way through rain-enforced traffic after a 14-rider mass start from the pitlane.
Marquez revealed that he hadnt been feeling at 100 per cent and had been taking antibiotics which had left him a bit down on strength, but it didn’t seem to matter, as neither did the massive highside in free practice on Friday.
“I’m not yet thinking about winning the championship at Aragon. The most important thing is to win the championship but when doesn’t matter. For me, it is not the same to win at Aragon as it is in Australia as all my family will be at Aragon but it is too difficult to think that the second part of the season will continue in that way,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.
“Dani, Jorge, Valentino are all very good riders and someday the winning run will stop. What I need to do is to manage the distance.
“During the whole weekend I don’t feel so powerful. On Wednesday I had a fever and then I took antibiotics. After those, my body feels tired but on the bike I was OK and able to push.”
