Britain’s Scott Redding missed out on a place in the final MotoGP timed session at the Sachsenring by just 0.032s after choosing the wrong tyre for his first run in qualifying one.
The Go&Fun Honda man elected to go out with the softest option front Bridgestone but found it made the bike move around too much and by the time he had pitted to change for a harder compound, he had lost too much time.
“Today we had a good opportunity to go into Qualifying 2 for the first time, but I made the wrong tyre choice for the start of Qualifying 1 and that cost me dear. I opted to go with the soft option front, but there was a lot of movement so I had to come back into the pits and change to the harder option. That lost me precious time in what is already a short session,” said Redding.
“It’s disappointing because my ideal time was three-tenths faster but, as it was, I lost too much time in sector one on my fastest lap. Although tomorrow will be a long and demanding race, we’re confident we can go with the soft rear tyre, although we won’t make a decision on the front until we’ve had a chance to check the conditions tomorrow.”
