MotoGP Sepang: Pedrosa murders the field; Rossi 13th

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa has marmalised the MotoGP field in today's second free practice session, lapping almost a second faster than team-mate Casey Stoner in second place as the pair led a Honda clean sweep of the top five places.

Pedrosa's 2'01.250 was 0.8s quicker than the newly-crowned world champion and the only rider to go under the 2'02 barrier and did four laps in the 2'01s bracket. Stoner could only manage a 2'02.070 in comparison while third-place man Andrea Dovizioso, on the final Repsol bike, is a massive 1.4s off the pace.

Marco Simoncelli was only a tenth faster than team-mate Hiro Aoyama on the San Carlo Hondas to take fourth place while Colin Edwards is the first non-Honda on the timesheet in sixth and 1.7s in arrears. Alvaro Bautista is in seventh place and only a tenth off the Texan.

Randy De Puniet is the fastest Ducati rider in eighth on the Pramac bike with Ben Spies putting the factory Yamaha in ninth and Karel Abraham rounds out the top ten.

Nicky Hayden leads a trio of Ducatis which has Marlboro team leader Valentino Rossi at the wrong end of it in 13th with Loris Capirossi the meat in the sandwich. Rossi is a massive 2.4s off the pace with apparently no answer again.

British Superbike runner-up John Hopkins took 14th place on a 2'03.885 which was fractionally ahead of Cal Crutchlow's Monster Yamaha. Hector Barbera did 11 tentative laps, checking the progress of the collarbone he broke in Japan.
