MotoGP Sepang test: Rossi, Pedrosa tie for top spot

Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa tied for top spot on the final day of MotoGP testing, setting he exact same time but at different ends of the day with Rossi’s 1’59.999 coming in the morning and Pedrosa’s on his 47th of 50 laps.

Rossi has partially overcome the problems he was suffering with the new spec of Bridgestone tyre - unlike team-mate Jorge Lorenzo who is mired down in seventh and six-tenths off the pace of The Doctor.

But both the Honda and Yamaha men were still slower than their own pace at the Malysian track earlier in the month and nearly half a second down on the circuit best, set by missing Marc Marquez.

Andrea Dovizioso has taken to the Open class setup on his Ducati Desmosedici like a duck to water, setting the third fastest time of the day and less than a tenth of a second slower than Rossi and Pedrosa. Team-mate Cal Crutchlow also found pace with the spec ECU bike and closed the gap just under eight-tenths of a second in eighth.

Aleix Espargaro, also on a Open class-spec Forward Yamaha, was just edged out by Dovizioso, again by less than a tenth of a second, so finished a tenth off the pace. He was followed by Stefan Bradl and Alvaro Bautista on the Factory-spec LCR and Gresini Hondas.

Lorenzo will be spitting feathers at his relative lack of pace and that he is being chased hard by both Crutchlow and Bradley Smith, who is only only two-tenths slower on the satellite Monster Yamaha.

Colin Edwards once again won the battle of the Americans, outpacing Nicky Hayden overall by a little under two tenths while Scott Redding, on the Go&Fun productio bike, ended in 19th place and 2.2s in arrears.
