Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo is having to ride more aggressively and brake later than ever in order to try and stay with the MotoGP pace set by Casey Stoner in today's Silverstone qualifying session but the Spaniard is more confident of a result now than he was yesterday.
After yesterday's free practice sessions, the Spaniard didn't know which way to turn and had no answer to the one second gap between himself and the Australian, saying he struggled as he was a second slower than last year.
"I don't know if we can be at the same laptime or very close. One second for me is too much. I at least want to be at the same laptime as last year. I wish I could find an easier way to go quick but I can't," said the Spaniard yesterday.
Today, however, Lorenzo was in a different mood altogether after securing a front row start but he said he has had to push much harder.
"It was a good qualifying, we made it and we modified the bike to find some traction and also to improve the braking point so that's what we did to the bike but I am riding very aggressively, braking later than ever so I am very satisfied with my riding. In dry conditions we are closer (to Stoner) than in the last races," said the reigning world champion.
'I prefer a dry race, it is better for everyone, but if it rains it depends on the quantity of water that will be on the track. It will be a long race and tough to keep the concentration."
