MotoGP Silverstone: Alex Marquez in no hurry to step up

Alex Marquez is in no hurry to make to the step into the MotoGP class and says that if he needs to spend two or even three years in MotoGP before joining his brother in the blue riband class, then so be it.

The younger Marquez, who is now getting physically too big for his Estrella Galicia Honda Moto3, says he would like to step up into Moto2 next year but doesn’t yet know with which team and not jump into MotoGP as his title rival Jack Miller is expected to next season.

“Many people say to me that I need to go to Moto2 because I am tall. I will try a Moto2 at Valencia and then I will be able to say whether it is good for me or not,” said Marquez, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Silverstone.

“Going straight to MotoGP is a possibility but I think I should go to Moto2 for the experience because there you can learn a lot. I prefer to go step by step, first Moto2 and then if I am OK and have some offers to go to MotoGP, then good.

“First of all I think it is better to stay in Moto2 for two years or if necessary three to get the experience.”
