MotoGP Silverstone: Alex Marquez to join MarcVDS in 2015

Current MotoGP Moto3 title challenger Alex Marquez will move into Moto2 next season after signing a deal with the MarcVDS squad.

The younger of the Marquez brothers will ride for the team for two years in support class, which is a smart move by boss Michael Bartholemy. He is on the verge of signing a deal to lease a factory RC213V which has Scott Redding attached.

Should Redding prove to be worthy of a Repsol Honda slot in two years’ time when Dani Pedrosa’s contract runs out, then MarcVDS have Marquez Jr ready to step into the blue riband class on a works-spec bike.

“I am so proud and excited to announce I am joining Marc VDS Racing Team in Moto2 for the next two years. It is very important for me because I am changing class with a fantastic team and a strong teammate,” said Marquez.

“I have been working hard to be here and I want to thank the Marc VDS Racing Team for their trust in me. But now it’s time to focus on Moto3, we are in the most important moment of the season and our mission is to fight for the championship.”
