Ducati’s Cal Crutchlow has admitted that today was the slowest he has ever been around his home track of Silverstone. The rider failed to make it into Q2 during the MotoGP qualifying session, and will start the race on Sunday from a lowly 15th on the grid.
He is naturally disappointed with his poor form and is unsure whether it will be rectified in time for the race tomorrow. He doesn’t have any feeling with his bike, or with the tyres and doesn’t understand why that is the case, or why he is two seconds slower than team-mate, and front row starter, Andrea Dovizioso.
“I am disappointed – I am not fast enough. I don’t think I have ever been so slow around Silverstone. I don’t see a way that we will find a solution with the bike, by the morning, but I am optimistic,” said Crutchlow, at the track.
“I don’t have a feeling with the bike and the tyres, but we are still too far away from the leading riders. There were a lot of people on the track, and I don’t understand why they are following me, and I don't understand why they are waiting for me. I had massive vibration with the softer tyre and I didn’t want to take the risk and push, as I nearly crashed three or four times during qualifying.
"Even if I have a new tyre it feels like after one lap like I have done 30 [rotations], but Dovi is able to do it, but on this bike I can’t at the moment. I never expected at any point in my career that I would be struggling for pace and I never expected to be two seconds off the pace of my team-mate, home Grand Prix or not it doesn’t make a difference. I am here too race and to be so slow is disappointing, but I can't see a way we can improve by tomorrow."
