Cal Crutchlow was fastest in MotoGP free practice three on a chilly Saturday morning at Silverstone as just ten riders improved from their Friday free practice two times.
The home rider missed on out leading the opening day of proceedings at Silverstone by just 0.005 seconds did manage to finish FP3 fastest, albeit with a time that was nearly half a second slow than his FP2 time.
Crutchlow finished just ahead of Danilo Petrucci who was one of two riders whose FP3 time managed to promote him directly into Q2 with a time that was good enough to go seventh fastest in combined practices.
Jack Miller made it two Pramac Ducati’s in the top three with his time must a tenth further back from his team-mates time. Johann Zarco was fourth fastest and fastest Yamaha this morning and just 0.110 second behind his Friday time despite traffic from Andrea Iannone marring his progress.
Maverick Vinales was fifth fastest on his Movistar Factory Yamaha. Vinales was third fastest yesterday and looks set for another strong showing at Silverstone after a rough start to 2018. Valentino Rossi was sixth and the second rider in the top ten to improve on his Friday time, the Doctor managed to find 0.070 seconds and cement his place directly into Q2.
Franco Morbidelli was another who improved on Saturday morning finishing seventh fastest, although his time of a 2:02.321 was 0.090 second behind Iannone’s FP2 time, forcing him through Q1.
Friday pace setter Andrea Dovizioso was eighth fastest this morning just ahead of Marc Marquez with the duo safely into Q2, whilst Bradley Smith made it two Brits in the top ten. Despite finding four tenths from his Friday time, Smith will be made to go through Q1.
Andrea Iannone and Jorge Lorenzo will also go straight into Q2 despite finishing FP3 in thirteenth and fifteenth respectively, due to the work put in during Friday’s FP2 session.
