Had Monster Yamaha's Colin Edwards listened to his heart instead of his head he may well not have scored his first MotoGP podium of the year at Silverstone this afternoon as the American has just wanted to go home and lick his wounds following the Barcelona crash which broke his collarbone.
Edwards rode an heroic and experienced race to take third place behind a brace of Repsol Hondas as all about him, including world champion Jorge Lorenzo, crashed their heads off in torrential conditions.
"I've broke my collarbone three times on the other side, every one of them I had surgery and still went home and did nothing for three weeks because it hurt like hell. The fact that Dr Mir put me together so good I thought it was a miracle cos I felt like shit and I wanted to go home, lick my wounds and hang out with my kid," said Edwards.
"I woke up right after surgery and thought, 'This is crazy.' I have never had surgery where I felt that good immediately. With the Dani situation, he is doing the right thing if he felt like my other three surgeries, I just happened to have a good one. I could have started in Barcelona but there was one (two excellent expletives deleted) who didn't want me to so I had to listen to him."
