Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo did not expect to place his bike on the front row – but he did just that, and managed to push his way to the third spot on the grid for tomorrow’s MotoGP race at Silverstone.
The rider was blighted with tyre issues yesterday, but it would appear that his team have been working hard to resolve those problems, and whatever they did appeared to have worked.
Lorenzo suffered on what he described as a bumpy track and felt he didn’t have the correct tyres to cope with the historic circuit. But he has found some pace on the harder option, instead of the extra soft tyre he was mostly using yesterday.
The Yamaha rider won at this track last year and hasn’t given up on the possibility that he can do it again for a second year in succession – but is adamant that there is still work to do on the bike.
“I didn’t expect to be on the front row, as yesterday was quite bad, but I have been working hard with the team and little by little we have improved the bike, and we were able to absorb the bumps. But still even with the intermediate front tyre we have some problem with the bumps - but it is much better than yesterday,” said Lorenzo, at the circuit.
“The rear tyre that we have for this track is not the best. If I had a normal tyre like I had here last year and with Brno I think I could have gone faster. It should be hotter tomorrow with the weather and it will be better for us, and we are still working hard to try and absorb the bumps on the track.”
