MotoGP Silverstone: Lowes targets home podium

Britain’s Sam Lowes had targeted a debut Moto2 podium in front of his home fans at Silverstone’s MotoGP round this weekend.

The Speed Up man starts a run of three tracks he knows well taking in Misano and Motorland Aragon next but says that standing on the rostrum is the aim in Northamptonshire.

“Yeah, I love the circuit. I love racing in front of my home fans and I believe I can do a good job there. Assen was upsetting because I knew I could be on the podium, so hopefully we can save it for Silverstone. With Silverstone, then Misano and Aragon – tracks I know and love – I think it will be great to try to get on the podium, but definitely start being in the top five,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I have a contract to stay here if I want. The team is starting to work a bit better. Hopefully, if the next races are good, I’ll stay here. If not, things may be different. Now I’m working hard and my goal is to get to the front of Moto2 and go to MotoGP. I’d say I’m more confident that I can achieve that than I was at the end of last year.”
