MotoGP Silverstone: Marquez saving the front with his elbows

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez knew very early in yesterday’s Silverstone MotoGP race that electing the softer-option front Michelin was a mistake as it was moving around and he was having to hold it up on elbows.

The championship points leader eventually went into damage limitation territory but, with hindsight, thinks he still attacked too much causing two run offs which ended with him finishing fourth behind The Doctor.

“Maybe in the beginning of the race I was able to be even faster, but the biggest problem for me was after only four laps, I started to feel that soft tyre in the front was a mistake. It was moving too much, it was slow to turn the bike, and I was with the elbows all the time trying to manage the front. This was the first mistake,” Marquez said.

“Then I tried to manage the race behind Valentino, because I know that he is the main opponent for the championship, and then when five laps remained, I started to attack. Maybe I attack too much, take too much risk, but I believe that I was able to finish second. For that reason I push, but when two laps remain, I did the mistake with Cal, and then I lost many positions. But we need to see the positive things, that we lose only three points.”
