MotoGP Silverstone: New parts can't come fast enough for Rossi

Marlboro Ducati's Valentino Rossi couldn't find any grip or get temperature in his soft compound Bridgestone tyres at Silverstone's MotoGP round today but it didn't stop him picking up a sixth place which he is happy with given the awful weekend he had up until the chequered flag.

The Doctor qualified 13th yesterday and was virtually the slowest Ducati on the grid but the weather once again played into Rossi's hands and, after finding pace in morning warm-up, he was able to net some more points. But he wants to know where team-mate Nicky Hayden got his speed from and says the new parts with which they are expecting to solve the rear stability issue can't come fast enough.

"For me, we are happy with the result if you think back to what has happened over the weekend it was the worst weekend of the season, we struggle very much but the weather has helped us keep a good result," said the nine-time world champion. "I think we have two problems, the first is the Yamahas and the Hondas are faster than we are and we have to find some new parts for rear grip that doesn't mess up the front as soon as possible.

"The second problem is the performance of Nicky as he was always faster than us in the practice but especially in this morning in the warm up I was faster than him but for the race they are able to improve the bike a lot and my bike is very difficult to ride.

"I don't have grip and I couldn't put enough temperature in the tyres. The feeling every lap is like the first lap out of the pit, the tyre move very much and I try and try but it was difficult.  In the wet the bike is more competitive, the gap from Yamaha and Honda is a lot less but the bike doesn't help me for understanding the track so we are stuck with the settings too far from the good ones."
